The season premiere of the fifth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars airs this Saturday. To build anticipation for Star Wars fans, the Cartoon Network and Lucasfilms have released a new teaser clip of the resurrected Darth Maul (voiced by Sam Witwer) and Savage Opress (v. Clancy Brown) meeting the Mandalorian Pre Vizsla (v. Jon Favreau. Yes! that Jon Favreau) on the lava planet of Mustafar. Check out the teaser clip:

The Zabrakian brothers and the Mandalorians are meeting up with the villainous criminal organization Black Sun, which first made an appearance in the multimedia platform Shadows of the Empire in 1996. You may want to think again if you think Star Wars: The Clone Wars is too kid friendly. Exploring the darker side of the deep Star Wars mythology is one of the benefits of watching the animated series.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars bridges Attack of the Clones and The Revenge of the Sith. The animated series is heading into its fifth season with the Jedi Knights against the ropes, as the shadowy Sith Lord has cast doubt in the Galactic Senate. A Civil War has broken out between the Separatists and the Galactic Republic as the two forces battle over Alderaan, one of the core planets and the stronghold for Republic control.

The Cartoon Network and Lucasfilms have also released a new extended trailer for the upcoming fifth season. One of the highlights of season five is sure to be the three-way lightsaber battle between Darth Sidious and his old apprentice Darth Maul and his brother Savage Opress. Check out the animated trailer below:

Star Wars: The Clone Wars season five premiere airs on the Cartoon Network on September 29th.
