With all of the focus moving towards Star Wars: Episode VII, let’s not forget J.J. Abrams has a new Star Trek movie coming out in three short months. To help remind us of that fact, Paramount has released a new batch of images, as well as some new information about the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness. Check out the images below.

Star Trek Into Darkness and J.J. Abrams is featured in the cover story — titled “Voyage Into the New Star Trek — in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, which will hit newsstands this week. We learn a little more about Benedict Cumberbatch’s John Harrison character, who screenwriter Alex Kurtzman describes as a “member of Starfleet who turns on Starfleet.” Kurtzman also describes Harrison as a terrorist who attacks both San Francisco and London in the Star Trek sequel film.

Meanwhile, director J.J. Abrams also speaks about the general tone of the film, which he reveals as being dictated by the cast of Star Trek Into Darkness. “I would say all of the actors, uh, have more opinions this time…” said Abrams. Actor Zoe Saldana wanted to get in on the action in the sequel and stressed her wishes to the filmmaker. Saldana admitted, “I told them to make sure that Uhura kicks more ass. And she does!”

There are two special collector’s covers for the new issue of Entertainment Weekly; one featuring Benedict Cumberbatch and Chris Pine, and the other featuring Zachary Quinto with Pine. It’s also not surprising that Cumberbatch’s John Harrison is being escorted through the Enterprise by five redshirts. I wonder what’s going to happen to them?

(If you’ve been paying attention to GFR today, you’ll know that the new issue of EW has raised some other major questions today as well…)

Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters everywhere on May 17th in IMAX 3D.
