Apparently Cinemosaic—a contraction of the words “cinema” and “mosaic” (it took me longer than I’m proud to admit to figure that out)—posters are a thing now. And Paramount has delivered a brand spanking new one for Star Trek Into Darkness. Certainly looks like the future to me.

The image takes the newest poster for J.J. Abrams’ sequel to his 2009 franchise reboot, and builds around it. Incorporating various images that have been released, and snippets of footage from different trailers and teasers, the marketing department has created a unique bit of promotion.

Gimmicks like this generally leave me cold, but I have to admit, this one is actually pretty cool. It’s already given me a headache, and I feel like it could induce seizures in some viewers, but overall it’s still something worth gawking at for a few minutes.

After a threat from within Starfleet unleashes a wave of terror on Earth, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and the rest of the crew of the Enterprise embark on an intergalactic manhunt. Their pursuit of the one-man wrecking crew John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch)—he’s so tough it takes an entire starship crew to hunt him down—leads them into a warzone, puts them in harm’s way, and tests the furthest bonds of friendship and loyalty.

Star Trek Into Darkness also stars Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Alive Eve, Anton Yelchin, and Peter Weller. The crew of the Enterprise returns to the final frontier on May 17th.
