The Next Star Trek Has Begun Filming At Last

By Josh Tyler | 9 years ago

The anticipation has been almost unbearable, as filming on the next Star Trek movie was delayed year after year after year. Today the delays are over as Star Trek: The Next (or at least that’s what we’re calling it till it gets a real title) officially begins principle photography in Los Angeles this week.

As we learned last week the movie is being shot in regular 2D, JJ Abrams says he’s determined to match the look of the previous film, even though it will be later post-converted into 3D. Clearly 2D will be the best way to see it.

Unlike most Hollywood movies which seem eager to run off to Canada for tax breaks, this Trek will be shot almost entirely in L.A., odds are mostly in a studio somewhere on the Paramount lot. They’ll also be using a few local locations, though. Those locations include the Budweiser Brewery in Van Nuys, Dodger Stadium, Long Beach City Hall, the Marine Corps Air Station in Tustin and the Vasquez Rocks park in Agua Dulce according to the LA Times.

They’ll be shooting 12 weeks but the movie won’t be in theaters until May 2013. Expect to start seeing a few things from the set in coming weeks. We’ll bring them to you as they pop up on the internet.

Here’s the official cast list of the new sequel:

Chris Pine ………… James T. Kirk
Zachary Quinto …….. Spock
Karl Urban ………… Leonard McCoy
Zoe Saldana ……….. Nyota Uhura
Simon Pegg ………… Montgomery Scott
Anton Yelchin ……… Pavel Chekov
John Cho ………….. Hikaru Sulu
Alice Eve …………. Unknown Role
Benedict Cumberbatch .. Likely villain
Peter Weller ………. Unknown Role
Noel Clarke ……….. Tragic family man
Nazneen Contractor …. Wife of Noel Clarke’s character
