First Star Trek 2 Set Footage Shows Spock Taking A Beating

By David Wharton | 8 years ago

It was just last week that we got our first look at the filming of J.J. Abrams’ much-anticipated Star Trek 2. The still photos revealed a knockdown fist-fight between Zachary Quinto as Spock and the unnamed — presumably villainous — character being played by Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock). The fight was said to be taking place atop a “Space Barge,” and showed Cumberbatch’s character shrugging off one of Spock’s patented Vulcan nerve pinches like it ain’t no thing. Today video footage of that same scene has surfaced, courtesy of SplashNews. Unfortunately, it’s also accompanied by some of the most annoying voiceover narration we’ve ever heard, so we highly recommend you watch it with the sound off. Seriously, we’re not kidding. Click the mute button, man.

You listened to it, didn’t you? Well, can’t say we didn’t warn you. There don’t appear to be any Easter eggs hiding in the footage, but it does confirm that Cumberbatch’s character must be pretty formidable, because he is beating the unholy hell out of Spock. Fun trick: if you suffered through the narration, despite our most fervent warnings, rewatch the video and imagine that Cumberbatch is pummeling the video narrator rather than Quinto. That’s just refreshing, that is.

Star Trek 2 is set to release on May 17, 2013.
