Will Smith Is Not Interested In Men In Black 4
While Sony is currently developing Men in Black 4, it appears that one of the franchise’s stars doesn’t want to return for another installment. Will Smith, one-half of the Men in Black duo, recently said that he has no plans to reprise his role as Agent J in Men in Black 4.
In an interview with Collider, Will Smith said that it might be time for a younger cast to take up the mantle for the forthcoming Men in Black film. Smith says, “I think three is enough for me. Three of anything is enough for me. We’ll look at it and we’ll consider it, but it feels like that it might be time to let someone else do that.”
Of course, Will Smith made these statements before the release of After Earth, which is considered a box office bomb domestically. There’s no telling how well After Earth might do overseas, but if it underperforms internationally, I’m sure Will Smith might change his tune about appearing in a surefire hit like Men in Black 4.
After doing two sequels in a row with Men in Black II and Bad Boys II in 2002 and 2003, respectively, Will Smith has avoided becoming a “sequel guy”. He has often played down the possibility of appearing in movies like I Am Legend 2 or the in-development Independence Day sequels.
But what about Smith’s actor son, Jaden? When asked if Jaden might be interested in filling his father’s shoes in Men in Black 4, Smith didn’t sound too enthusiastic. He responded, “If they were interested in that — that’s not something that I’m pushing for, or I don’t even know if Jaden is interested, but we’re open.”
