Fellow Trek veteran Leonard Nimoy has also logged some hours as a yellow-skinned visitor to Springfield. Unlike Takei, Nimoy played himself — or at least a satirical version of himself — both times. He first turned up in the classic episode “Marge vs. the Monorail” from the fourth season. He was the Grand Marshall at the opening ceremony for Springfield’s spanking-new monorail, quipping, “I’d say this vessel could do at least Warp 5.” Sadly, the monorail would soon prove to need some work, and Mr. Scott was nowhere to be found. He returned in the sci-fi-tinged episode “The Springfield Files,” an ep that also had an appearance from The X-Files’ FBI Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). Nimoy serves as a framing device for the story about an “alien” in Springfield, narrating a fictional show about alien encounters, in the vein of his own In Search Of….
