We’re in something of a renaissance for top-notch science fiction comic series, from Brian K. Vaughan’s amazing and surreal Saga, to Rick Remender’s Black Science, to Dynamite’s Twilight Zone series penned by Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski. Not one but two very promising new sci-fi comics are launching this week, and first up is Deep Gravity, a four-part mini-series written by Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko (Star Wars: Legacy) and with art by Fernando Baldó. With only four issues, it should be a perfect bite-sized summer read, and if you don’t want to have to wait between issues, you can always hold out until October, when the full series will be available. Here’s the official synopsis for the series:

Welcome to Poseidon! Gilise MG452, a.k.a. ‘Poseidon,’ is Earth’s deadly sister planet. A planet similar to ours, yet utterly alien, it circles a red dwarf just three years from Earth. Maelstrom Science and Technology Corp. has the lone contract to mine the planet’s resources. But what once was a scientific expedition has become a beast of profit…with no room for failure.

You should be able to grab a digital copy of Deep Gravity #1 from the Dark Horse online store tomorrow, or track down your local comic shop for a hard copy.
