We’ll all have to wait until later this week to get an actual look at Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) in action—that’s when the first trailer is supposed to hit the airwaves. Until then we’ll have to content ourselves with a few more new photos from the set of Pete Travis’ comic book adaptation Dredd.
The first image from 2000 AD you a full body shot of Dredd and Judge Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) on the street. It’s a longer-range picture, but you can still see that Anderson, Dredd’s mentee if you will, wears a worried expression, while Dredd himself looks like he’s ready to rumble.
This next two shots are closer on Dredd. Under the harsh lighting of reality his costume looks a little cheap, but you can count on the finished product being much more polished, what with lighting, photography, editing, special effects, and all of that taken into account. We’ll see how it all comes together when the trailer drops.
One thing that is nice to see here is that Dredd looks less bubble-headed than in some other photos. He still looks a little bit like a kid wearing his dad’s football helmet, but it seems to fit him pretty well.
For those uninitiated, Dredd is about a massive futuristic city where a police force of “Judges” function as the entire legal system, from arrest to execution. A notorious judge (Dredd) and his trainee (Anderson) team up to take down a drug kingpin named Ma-Ma (Lena Heady). This version promises to be truer to the source material than the 1995 film with Sylvester Stallone, sticking closer to the brutal, violent nature of the source material.
Dredd opens everywhere September 21st, 2012.
