“This one here is our booty!” With the release of the first teaser trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy, we finally got a chance to meet the cosmic team. While the characters and setting might be unusual for the uninitiated, Guardians of the Galaxy is still very much a Marvel superhero movie. It’s just that the film features a walking tree and a talking raccoon. Although the only member of the team that spoke in the trailer was Star-Lord, Marvel is taking a cue from Lucasfilm and starting to introduce the other members of the new superhero team.

First up, Rocket Raccoon. When we first heard the news that Bradley Cooper was cast to play Rocket Raccoon, it was a bit shocking to hear that director James Gunn didn’t go with someone like Jason Statham or Gerard Butler. In all of the video games and animated series that feature Rocket, he has always sounded like a cockney British tough guy. Not exactly like Bradley Cooper. In the video above, Gunn gives a brief introduction to Rocket and we finally get to hear how Bradley Cooper will portray him in the new movie.

While Bradley Cooper doesn’t sound like the Rocket we’ve come to know, he still brings a presence and excitement to the character. You really can’t tell how the character will come off on the big screen from just one line reading, but all in all, Bradley Cooper sounds good as the expert marksman and master tactician.

Gunn has said before that Rocket Raccoon is the heart and soul of Guardians of the Galaxy, which is why he ended up casting Cooper. While I like Jason Statham and Gerard Butler, they really can’t convey pathos with their voices. In that respect, Cooper is right for the role, regardless of the accent.

Guardians of the Galaxy features Peter Quill, a half-human, half-alien who is at the center of a galaxy-wide manhunt when he tries to steals a mysterious orb, which is believed to be one of the Infinity Gems. As he tries to escape a space prison, he builds a shaky alliance with a group of misfits and outlaws. When the new team learns about the orb’s true power, they must work together to save the galaxy from the evil Kree Empire and Ronan the Accuser.

Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Lee Pace, Benicio del Toro, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, Olivia Lovibond, John C. Reilly, and Glenn Close, and opens in theaters everywhere on August 1.
