The Sundance Film Festival isn’t exactly known as a sci-fi hot spot. This year, though, is different. One of the most talked about movies of the festival is something called Robot & Frank, and now it’s coming to a theater near you.
Robot & Frank is described as a buddy picture and a heist film. It stars Frank Langella as an elderly curmudgeon who teams up with a robot to return to the life of crime he lived when he was younger. It’s loaded up with an all star cast (James Marsdon, Susan Sarandon, Peter Saarsgaard, and Liv Tyler co-star) and by all accounts, the special effects are spectacular. They certainly look pretty good in this photo:
The movie has been purchased by Sony Pictures and Samuel Goldwyn Films, who plan to distribute it to a wider audience. No word yet on just how wide that release will be or when they’ll release it, but we’ll keep an eye on this one and let you know. Robot & Frank, coming soon to a theater near you.
Here’s the movie’s official plot synopsis:
Set in the near future, Frank (Frank Langella) a retired jewel thief gets a new lease on life when he is introduced to a surprising new companion. With the help of his new friend, he attempts to woo a local librarian (Susan Sarandon) and resume his criminal escapades.
