RoboCop Set Videos Hint At Officer Murphy’s Demise

I’m guessing the folks handling security for the RoboCop remake shoot don’t exactly have everything locked down, J.J. Abrams style. Over the past couple of weeks we’ve seen several batches of set photos leak, including the first look at Joel Kinnaman, who plays the doomed Officer Alex Murphy, all decked out in his new RoboCop suit. Now another big look behind the scenes has slipped out, thanks to a series of set videos that may reveal one of the film’s most important scenes.

Warning: Spoilers! If you don’t want to be spoiled — potentially — about the way in which Murphy meets his demise before he’s turned into RoboCop, then don’t play the videos or scroll down any further!

At first glance, there’s not much you can tell from the videos. Lots of fake rain and lots of gunfire. However, the folks from ComicBookMovie recently got to visit the set, and they’re able to provide some context to the gunfight. They explain that these videos are likely from the pivotal scene where Murphy is critically injured by “a bunch of paid goons.” If their guess is correct, then the RoboCop remake has wisely decided to change up the attack that makes Murphy a prime RoboCop candidate. That can only be a good thing, because let’s face it: you’re never going to do this scene any better than Paul Verhoeven and the original film’s cast.

The new RoboCop is scheduled to hit theaters on August 9, 2013.
