There’s a licensing expo going on in Las Vegas right now. While I’m not 100 percent certain what that means from a business perspective, I know that we’re getting a first look at a lot of fresh posters and artwork for a bunch of upcoming movies. Among the notable sci-fi entries we have RoboCop, Pacific Rim, After Earth, Ender’s Game, and a whole lot more.
I think the poster for Jose Padhila’s RoboCop is my favorite. The image is very mechanical, and feels like it fits the theme of the movie.
This one for Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse is a close second. That red-eyed mechanoid face is eerily human, and if you add the suffix “-pocalypse” to anything I’m game.
This poster for Guillermo del Toro’s robots versus monsters epic Pacific Rim is vague and esoteric…
…and I’m weirdly excited for Jurassic Park 3D. I’m not a huge proponent of making everything 3D, but T-Rex chasing down that Ford Explorer, coupled with the Velociraptors, that sounds like one hell of a time. I’ve been waiting for this since high school.
Given the fact that M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth follows a pair of astronauts (played by Will and Jaden Smith) stranded in the jungles of an uninhabited Earth, this design of this poster feels more appropriate than the last one we saw. (Extra points for the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man looming behind this poster.)
The Ender’s Game poster feels like it isn’t even trying, but Pac Man makes a cameo in the background.
And finally, the entry for paranormal detective tale R.I.P.D. is appropriately shadowy for a story about a dead detective.
