Ridley Scott And Walking Dead Makeup Man Working On Dystopian Sci-Fi Series For AMC

RidleyAMC demonstrated a willingness to take chances in less “respectable’ genres when it picked up The Walking Dead, based on the long-running comic series by Robert Kirkman. Needless to say, that one worked out okay for them, and in recent weeks the top-notch cable network has announced even more upcoming science fiction projects in the works. Now they’ve added another to the slate: an untitled dystopian, science fiction series from Ridley Scott, Scott Free production company.

The news comes from Deadline, but at this stage we have neither a name nor a logline for the project. Nevertheless, with the talent involved, this is one worth watching. As mentioned, Ridley Scott is developing the show, with Generation Kill’s Evan Wright on writing duties and serving as executive producer. Also onboard is The Walking Dead’s makeup master/co-exec producer Greg Nicotero. Given Nicotero’s invovlement, we can assume the project will likely involve some elements that will benefit from his singular skills at creating amazing effects.

This is the third science fiction series announced by AMC in the past month or so. Blake Masters, who created AMC’s short-lived but brilliant Rubicon, is working on a series called Line of Sight. It’s about a Transportation Safety Board investigator who survives a mysterious plane crash and becomes obsessed with figuring out what caused it.

AMC is also teaming up Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski and Pacific Rim writer Travis Beacham for Ballistic City. That intriguing project is described as a science fiction crime drama following a cop who falls into the world of organized crime. One twist: it’s all unfolding in a “city” aboard a generation ship on its way to an undisclosed location in the cosmos. Comparisons are being made to Blade Runner, Battlestar Galactica, and Chinatown.

Stay tuned for more when we know it!
