Riddick IMAX PosterAt one time, Riddick (Vin Diesel) was so certain that he was destined to spend the remainder of his life in a prison so deep, with so little light, that he had a guy enhance his eyes so that he could see in the dark. Over the course of the so-called Furyan Chronicles — Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick, and the upcoming Riddick — this particular survival skill has come in handy a time or two. And when he’s not seeing in the dark, he gets to wear cool sunglasses. Added bonus.

Thus far the marketing push has played with this fact, harping on the catchphrase “Rule the Dark.” A newly released IMAX poster (courtesy of Diesel himself) for Riddick keeps this trend going. Hopefully this also reveals something about the plot, like Riddick is going to have to do some night stalking in order to make it through his latest adventure. The trailers and footage we’ve seen seem to back up this supposition — there’s a lot of darkness to contend with — but it’s also not a bad tagline for a badass who can see in the dark.

This latest chapter finds Riddick stranded on a sun-scorched planet, battling giant monsters to survive. His only avenue of escape is to alert a band of bounty hunters to his whereabouts. Their arrival presents a whole other wealth of problems for the Furyan to deal with. Lucky for us, this film has already garnered an R rating, much more suitable to the material than the PG-13 stamped on Chronicles.

Directed by David Twohy, and co-starring Karl Urban, Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Molla, Bokeem Woodbine, and Dave Bautista, Riddick hits theaters on September 6.
