If you’ve been watching season three of AMC’s zombie drama The Walking Dead, then you know they haven’t pulled any punches. It’s been a rough go for Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his scrappy group of survivors. They’re not above killing off a long-running character, putting people through all sorts of hell, or forcing the survivors to make heart-breaking decisions. Taken at face value, this new poster promoting the mid-season return of the ratings juggernaut implies that more of the same is in store for the second half of the third season.

With a tag line like “An Eye for an Eye,” coupled with the grim, grim expression on the Governor’s one-eyed face, you know things are going to get unpleasant. I still wonder how close they’re going to stick to the story of the comics, and I can’t help thinking maybe “An Eye for a Hand” might be a more appropriate line to use. Either way, revenge is in the air.

While round two of this heavyweight brawl is going to be primarily Rick vs. the Governor, there are a ton of other problems to face as well. Since Lori’s death, Rick’s mental state is…let’s just call it questionable. And with Carl’s (Chandler Riggs) newfound confidence and independence, he’s about to start questioning daddy’s decisions at every turn. He certainly won’t be the only one in the group balking at Rick’s leadership ability.

Things are about to take a savage turn, and the ultimate humanity of the group hangs in the balance. Are they any better than the Governor and his minions? Both groups have done terrible things in the name of survival, and this is the biggest question that needs to be answered moving forward.

Then there is the arrival of Tyreese (Chad Coleman) and his own rag-tag little group. That’s going to cause some complications as well.

We’ll see how all of these situations, and more, resolve themselves when The Walking Dead returns on Sunday, February 10th, at 9:00 pm with “The Suicide King.”
