If you saw the last installment of the Resident Evil franchise, the first filmed in 3D, then you know that director Paul W.S. Anderson’s newest chapter, Resident Evil: Retribution, also in 3D, will spend most of its run time exploding off the screen. The man has a penchant for winging things at your face, often in slow motion. Two new TV spots for the fifth film in the videogame-based series make a big deal out of the reappearance of some of Alice’s (Milla Jovovich) previous compatriots, with the “old friends becoming new enemies” angle.

The first video features lots of familiar faces from Alice’s past, some monsters you’ve encountered before, and plenty of Resident Evil’s trademark rapid-fire-edited action sequences. Fans of the videogames take note of the quick glimpse at Kevin Durand as Barry Burton, a legendary figure within the games. Barry is making his debut in the films, as is gamer stalwart Ada Wong (Li Bingbing).

Using a similar voiceover, the second spot dives head first into the plot side of things. The sinister Umbrella Corporation, the people responsible for unleashing the deadly T-virus and thus destroying the world, is up to its old tricks. Alice is left for dead, only to wake up deep inside the most clandestine Umbrella facility yet. Turns out the company has brainwashed many of Alice’s oldest friends, turning them against her. With some of her other old pals in tow, Alice has to circle the globe, hunting down the people who keep interfering in her life and wrecking the planet.

Resident Evil: Retribution opens in 3D September 14th.
