Pro-Wrestlers Vs. Zombies Music Video Is Undead Butt-Stomping Fun

Do you guys remember when films utilized music videos for promotion on a regular basis? I mean, it may still happen on occasion, but the all-around lack of straightforward methods of viewing music videos has rendered my knowledge of them absent. But you don’t need to look any farther than up a few inches to see one of the most interesting music videos ever created. (I say this with a bare minimum of irony attached.) You’re seen zombies take on regular folks. You’ve seen them World War Ztake on Brad Pitt. You’ll one day see them fight dinosaurs. But now you can witness zombies taking on professional wrestlers, in a music video for Cody Knotts’ upcoming tongue-in-cheek indie horror Pro-Wrestlers Vs. Zombies. You hear that knocking? That’s the sound of awesome, better let him in.

Some of you are bound to scoff at this project, but then, why would you have even clicked on it in the first place? I know why. Because you wanted to see wrestlers fighting zombies. It’s perfectly natural, and science has proven that the “R” in “RNA” stands for “Rasslin,” so it’s embedded deep within all of us. I’ll admit that I’m not necessarily a huge fan of the song, “American Warrior” by the hard rock band Reverant Skye, but it’s got a great riff, and matches up with the visuals. Katy Perry’s “Roar” would get suplexed right off the turnbuckle. Not that they have any turnbuckles in this movie. Probably.

Knotts, who previously directed two other indie horror flicks, funded the film through a $30,000 Kickstarter campaign earlier this year, and you bet your ass he didn’t put that money towards any fake-looking CGI blood. This is a practical effect-driven film, which is exactly how a movie featuring professional wrestlers should be. The stable of athletes that pop up in this film is stocked, covering many generations of the sport. And there are also quite a few buxom females getting in on the zombie bashing as well, if you’re into that sort of thing.

You’ll recognize the likes of Shane “The Franchise” Douglas, Roddy “All Out of Bubblegum” Piper, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Kurt Angle, Matt Hardy, Scott “Raven” Levy, Larry Zbyszko, and Terry Funk. That list would actually make a damned fine wrestling card, and equals out to the strangest cast list I’ve ever seen. But I love it. I haven’t followed wrestling much in the last decade or so, but I grew up watching every single one of these guys, and even went out in public quite a few times dressed up as a Hardy Boy. Not my finest hour, but few of them are.

You can possibly find this flick in theaters at some point after it premieres on November 22, but I’m assuming VOD and DVD will be the easiest way to see it. Below you’ll find the film’s actual trailer, and below that the Kickstarter promo, which features Douglas and Knotts talking about why they wanted to make this film a reality. (Hint: because it’s awesome.) Having seen the trailer a few months ago, my favorite part is still when Kurt Angle twists someone’s foot right off of their body.
