Prometheus IMAX Poster

Prometheus

Leading up to the release of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, there was significant excitement about the return to the Alien franchise. How could there not be? It had been about 15 years since Alien Resurrection, and this new movie wasn’t going to include Sigourney Weaver at all. A reboot if there ever was one.

Prometheus viewers who went into things with eyes-blazing in IMAX theaters had their dedication rewarded. It came in the form of an exclusive poster handed out to those late-night warriors. Those brave souls who ventured into the first screenings.

Check out the Prometheus IMAX poster Alien fans got at the time. This is what waiting patiently for a movie is all about.

Here’s what IMAX said about the Prometheus IMAX poster giveaway:

Exclusively for IMAX fans – those attending the Prometheus midnight shows in North America in the first hours of June 8th receive an exclusive, limited edition poster. The never-before-seen artwork teases the mysteries unlocked in Prometheus, and is available as part of IMAX 12:01. Check for list of participating theatres on imax.com; while supplies last.

The Prometheus IMAX poster features Noomi Rapace’s character staring up at a massive stone face. For the uninitiated, the features of this facade would clearly have been confusing and mysterious. Who is this figure?

It’s definitely not a Xenomorph, that much is more than obvious. For a franchise that made its bones on Ellen Ripley fending off these monstrosities, this poster deals something of a curveball.

Would it be possible that the new Alien enemy was and is something completely different altogether? And, of course, the message lends itself to considerable world-building and backstory as well.

The line “We Came From Them, They Will Come For Us,” signals a shift in the story here, hinting (understatement) that the very question of human life will be answered. And we might find that our ancestors aren’t so happy about our existence.

In the Prometheus IMAX poster we see Noomi Rapace’s Dr. Elizabeth Shaw. But missing are other stars like Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, and Logan Marshall-Green.

Prometheus tells the story of a crew of explorers on a mission to find the origins of humanity in deep space. What they find is something much more sinister, and have to fight for the very survival of the human race. Heck, you can even go back and reread Josh’s Prometheus review.

Prometheus released in United States theaters on June 8, 2012, and ended up pulling more than $400 million at the box office. It was a massive hit for the franchise, a worthy return to this world (or space world at least).

The Prometheus IMAX poster got the ball rolling for the initial story. And what unfolded was really something to take in.
