Bachelorette_Rebel_WilsonIt’s hard to believe that 2015 is lurking right around the corner and we’re talking, with relative certainty, about a new Ghostbusters movie. As divisive as this topic has been over the years, it’s even more so now that it’s been revealed that director Paul Feig is working on a reboot of the franchise that not only reimagines the fan favorite characters, but envisions them as an all female ensemble. No one has been officially cast, but we’ve now heard our first bit of potential casting news: Rebel Wilson met with Feig to talk about the film.

This news isn’t much of a surprise since the Pitch Perfect star appeared in Feig’s hit Bridesmaids, and hers has been one of the names frequently bandied about in regards to this movie. For his part, Feig is also prone to working with a similar pool or really funny women, like with his next outing, Spy, which sees him reteam with Rose Byrne, who he directed on Bridesmaids, and Melissa McCarthy, who he worked with on Bridesmaids and The Heat.

Wilson recently appeared on The Today Show to talk about Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb, when host Matt Lauer asked about Ghostbusters. She said, “ “Look, I’ve had a meeting, but who knows. They have to take a look at the script when it’s finished.”

From that statement, it seems pretty clear that the screenplay isn’t done just yet. While that might raise an eyebrow or two, it’s not all that uncommon. Especially with a movie like this, bound to be full of improvisational comedians, it can help to have actors in mind during the writing process, to put them in situations where their skills will be most utilized.

During the interview, Lauer asked if the proverbial “money truck” would make any difference in her decision one way or another. Wilson responded, “I’d even do it without the money truck because Ghostbusters, the giant marshmallow man if that’s going to be in it…yeah, I’d do that for free. I probably shouldn’t say that on TV.”

There’s been a lot of controversy surrounding the decision to make the Ghostbusters team all women. Original star Ernie Hudson has made his feelings on the matter crystal clear, and there have even been petitions to put a stop to it. But not everyone thinks it’s a bad idea. Bill Murray has given the idea his blessing (probably in part because it means people will stop trying to get him to appear in it), and even offering suggestions as far as casting. And his would be a pretty good list, as it includes McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Linda Cardellini, and Emma Stone. All but Stone have worked with Feig before in some capacity.

So what do you think about this possibility? That’s all it is at this point, but do you think Rebel Wilson would make a good Ghostbuster?
