Parks & Recreation’s Chris Pratt Duels Darth Vader In A New Kinect Star Wars Ad

It sometimes seems like George Lucas has specifically set out to rob Darth Vader of his mystique over the past decade or so. First he shows us that the ominous Lord Vader was once an incredibly annoying little rugrat that would have flown into the side of a Tatooine cliff face if we were lucky. Then we got angsty adolescent Vader, who sulked and brooded and delivered lines like “I don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here everything is soft and smooth.” And then there was the “Nooooo!!!!” heard round the world. As if that weren’t all infuriating enough, then he decided that one “NO” was one too few. At this point the guy should just draw a smiley face on his helmet or have him pantsed by an Ewok in some future special edition.

At least this latest assault on the Dark Lord of the Sith’s dignity has the benefit of actually being funny. A new British commercial for the upcoming motion-control game Kinect Star Wars has popped up online, featuring Parks & Recreation‘s Chris Pratt reliving one of Star Wars‘ most iconic scenes. It could be about 30 seconds shorter, but I still laughed several times throughout, most notably when the time comes for Pratt-as-Obi-Wan to “become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.” Darth Vader’s irritation is your entertainment.

Kinect Star Wars is set to come out on December 31, 2012, exclusively for the Xbox 360 and the Kinect. Here’s the video.
