Did somebody declare today International Pacific Rim day and forget to tell me? Because this is the third time today that we’re writing a story about the same movie, something that usually only happens when somebody announces a brand-new Star Wars trilogy. Thankfully, so far each new reveal from Pacific Rim has managed to one-up the previous one.

We started with a “video test” of the so-called Kaiju Emergency Alert System (“kaiju” is Japanese for “strange beast). Then we got to check out a badass blueprint of one of the film’s “Jaegers,” a massive robot controlled by two pilots and used as our only defense against gigantic monsters invading our world from another dimension. By the standards of any movie’s marketing, that would equal a busy and successful day, but oh no…Pacific Rim still wasn’t done with us. Because now they’ve released a “found footage” style video showing news reports of a Kaiju attack on San Francisco, including our very first blink-and-you’ll-miss-it look at the film’s giant monsters. It’ll put a big stupid geek grin on your face, guaranteed. If you want to go into Pacific Rim as unspoiled as possible, however, click away now.

In case you weren’t fast enough to hit pause on the money shot, we’ve included a still of our first good glimpse of the film’s Kaiju below.

Pacific Rim opens in theaters on July 12, 2013. The film is directed by Guillermo del Toro, written by Travis Beacham, and stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day.
