Pacific Rim Releases New Poster, This Is Getting Silly

Pacific Rim PosterSeriously, this is getting ridiculous. Don’t get me wrong, I’m as pumped up about Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim as anybody, especially after watching that giant robot use a cargo ship to tee off on a giant monster in that WonderCon footage. But sweet baby Jesus, Legendary Pictures has released an absurd amount of promotional material, including this poster, the latest in a long, and most likely continuing, line of advertisements. There’s still two and a half months until the July 12 release, so you can bet we’ll see so, so much more.

There have been traditional one sheets like this, which introduce you to the fact that, yes, there are a bunch of giant mechs in this movie, as well as numerous viral offerings and banners. We’re practically drowning in posters for Pacific Rim, and we’re about to be overrun by toys and merch for the film.

In the world of Pacific Rim, massive creatures called Kaiju have invaded our world through a rift between dimensions at the bottom of the ocean, and it isn’t a good time for the human race. Being that the Kaiju are big, mean, and poop all over the place, they kind of wreck up the joint. In order to combat this new menace, those ingenious scientist/engineer folks come up with Jaegers, giant mechanoids controlled by a pair of human pilots linked at the brains.

The Jaegers even the score, to a degree, but the conflict still costs thousands of lives, millions of dollars, and precious resources. Just when it looks like we may be losing the war, an unlikely pair of heroes emerges. A washed-up pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested rookie (Rinko Kikuchi) must pilot a broken-down, out-of-date Jaeger, and may be the last hope for humanity.

Pacific Rim costars Idris Elba, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman.
