OutlanderRomance was in the air last week, what with Valentine’s Day and everything, and it must have seemed like a perfect time for Starz to drop a few details about their upcoming time-travel romance, Outlander. And low and behold, that’s exactly what the network did, releasing a couple of new stills from the series that show off the leads in various stages of their romantic entanglements.

Adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s massively popular series of novels, Outlander follows a World War II nurse named Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), who, while on a Scottish vacation with her hubby, finds herself vaulted back through time to the 18th century. Once there, she is compelled to marry a roguish outlaw warrior named Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), and given his line of work, her medical skills come in handy on a regular basis. This is a complicated situation, however, given that Claire is both from the future, and already has a husband there. Is it cheating if you’ve traveled back to a time where even your spouse’s distant ancestors haven’t been born yet? That sounds like an interesting moral quandary.

The first photo shows present day Claire, or at least as present day as the show gets. She’s in the midst of a leisurely woodland stroll with her hubby, Frank (Tobias Menzies). As you probably guessed, this is before she falls back through time. Everything seems idyllic and sweet as the young couple has no idea what is in store for them. Here’s the kicker about this image. When Claire lands in the 1700s, she encounters Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall, a distant relative of her husband, who is also played by Menzies.

If you’ve earned a moniker like Black Jack, odds are you’re not a particularly nice guy, and that is what Claire discovers. He’s cruel and vicious, and also happens to be one of Jamie’s chief rivals, which is going to complicate her situation even further.

OutlanderPicture number two is a little more erotic than its predecessor. This is definitely more in line with the shows Starz’ is most known for. You have Jamie, shirtless and grubby, but like hot grubby, getting what you assume is some medical treatment from Claire, but you can rest assured that this is going to lead into some sexy time. Then again, you don’t see the woman’s face, so her identity is just a best guess scenario at this point. Either way, this is the sort of steamy romance that fans of the Outlander books get all hot and bothered by.

There’s no concrete word on when Outlander will air, but it should air sometime this summer.
