It’s Official, Anne Hathaway Will Face The Robopocalypse

Anne Hathaway is about to add another cherry to the top of the sundae that is her current career. After stealing the show in the final chapter of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, and trolling for awards with the upcoming adaptation of Les Miserables, she’s going to work with a director named Steven Spielberg. And earning her brownie points from us here at GFR, it’ll be in a movie called Robopocalypse.
Rumors of Hathaway’s involvement in Spielberg’s next adventure, an adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s best-selling novel Robopocalypse, have been circulating for a while. That rumor has now been confirmed. The 30-year-old actress told Empire, “If Robopocalypse happens I will be in it…and I believe it’s quite real, though you never want to hang your hat on anything.”
Robopocalypse is set in a future where robots have become a normal part of daily life. You’ve seen enough movies to know that won’t last, and when a nasty bit of artificial intelligence named Arcos incites a robo-rebellion, things go downhill fast. There are two meaty, though drastically different, female roles in the story: one a politician, the other a soldier. Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) is handling the scripting duties, and reports say the story will diverge from the source material in a number of serious ways.
Hathaway has definitely been busy as of late, but there are certain directors that can interrupt any vacation with just a mere mention. She jokes, “Whenever I’m taking time off, I always joke to my team that I’m on vacation unless Steven Spielberg calls. And I was on vacation and Spielberg called. So I was like, ‘OK, put my money where my mouth is.’”
Robopocalypse will co-star Chris Hemsworth (Thor), and Ben Whishaw’s (Skyfall) name has also been kicked around. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2013.
