The Office’s John Krasinski Rumored To Be Joining Jurassic Park IV

Jurassic Park IV is slowly coming together for an unspecified 2015 release date. When Universal announced the film back in January, they were attempting to get the film into theaters in 2014. But now that the sequel film has some room to breathe, it’s refreshing to see a studio take their time with a project like Jurassic Park IV just so they can get it “right.” And the film’s director, Colin Trevorrow, has said that, “I actually want to make a kick-ass Jurassic Park movie.” Could one part of that kick-ass Jurassic Park movie involve…Jim from The Office?
According to MovieWeb, actor John Krasinski is up for a role in the new Jurassic Park sequel. The role would be “theme park workers in charge of ‘taming’ some of the dinosaurs.” Early reports suggested that Jurassic Park IV would take place in a fully working dinosaur theme park, which has become the #1 tourist destination in the world. While the park is also one of the safest, a new aquatic dinosaur breaks free and wreaks havoc. It’s not clear if Krasinski would play the lead in Jurassic Park IV, but the role is said to be similar to Dennis Quaid’s “Michael ‘Mike’ Brody” in 1983’s Jaws 3D.
John Krasinski is mostly known as playing Jim Halpert, the lovable nice guy from the U.S. adaptation of The Office on NBC. He has appeared in movies such as Dreamgirls, Leatherheads, and Away We Go, and he made his directorial debut with the film Brief Interviews with Hideous Men in 2009. Krasinski co-wrote the screenplay for Promised Land with Matt Damon for director Gus Van Sant in 2012. While I have no problem with Krasinski as an actor or personality, he ain’t no Sam Neill (who played Dr. Alan Grant in the original Jurassic Park in 1993).
If the story rumors about Jurassic Park IV prove true, then the comparisons to Jaws 3D will be endless. Both films are late entries in a once very successful film series from Steven Spielberg, and both feature man-eating beasts in a spectator/leisure setting. JP4 would be the first film in the series since Jurassic Park III in 2001.
As for Jurassic Park IV, director Colin Trevorrow didn’t disclose any new information (or any information, for that matter) about the new film during his appearance on the Jurassic Park Podcast. He told fans, “I would say don’t believe everything you read, there are way more insiders on the Internet than there are in real life.
Trevorrow continued to hold the torch for the Jurassic Park film series by saying that the new film would honor what came before it, while at the same time standing as a solid action movie for general audiences. He co-wrote the screenplay with his writing partner, Derek Connolly, taking over from Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver’s (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) original screenplay.
Jurassic Park IV will hit theaters everywhere during the summer of 2015, in 3D and IMAX.
