We’re less than two weeks away from Christmas, and you can practically feel the anticipation in the air. Once again, we’ll be able to take some time to appreciate the benevolent entity who loves all of mankind, and who time and again swoops in to save us when all seems lost. I speak, of course, of The Doctor. Yes, it’s just about time for another Doctor Who Christmas special, that happy time of year when we get one last dose of the Time Lord before settling in for the months-long wait for the next full season. Now we’ve got another trailer to help make you even more impatient.

All the footage we’ve seen so far of this year’s Christmas episode — entitled The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe — has been appropriately cryptic, since they don’t want to spoil all the surprises up front. The title is obviously a play on C.S. Lewis’ beloved children’s book, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and you can see elements from that work playing out in the new trailer, including a snow-covered forest reached by passing through a magical box (or wardrobe, as the case may be). Given the presence of spaceships, war planes, and what looks like the leg of a giant (freakin’) robot, the episode clearly isn’t going to be sending The Doctor into Lewis’ Narnia, but don’t be surprised if it ties into real history somehow…maybe Mr. Lewis will put in a cameo appearance of some sort.

Here’s the plot description from the BBC:

Set during World War II, the special follows Madge Arwell and her two children, Lily and Cyril, who have been evacuated to a draughty old house in Dorset. When they arrive they are met by the property’s caretaker, a mysterious young man in a bow tie, and a big blue parcel is waiting for them under the tree. They are about to enter a magical new world and learn that a Time Lord never forgets his debts…
