With the holiday season ramping up, it’s important to remember why we stop our busy schedules and slow down to share the season with our family and friends. The holiday season brings everyone together, even members of the US military back home with their families. Of course, one of the best ways to celebrate a military homecoming is by dressing up like Darth Vader to surprise your children.

Susie W. submitted the Star Wars military reunion video to the Welcome Home Blog. Susie’s husband, a US Navy Sailor, was deployed for three months before this video was taken, but he experienced a 96-hour shore leave before going back to sea. Her son wanted a Star Wars-themed birthday party where he would dress like Luke Skywalker to fight Darth Vader. He thought he’d be fighting his older cousin dressed as the Dark Lord of the Sith, but he got his father instead and a surprise reunion. The little girl in the video dressed like Princess Leia and is the sailor’s daughter.

Although this video was taken this past May, it’s still a very heartwarming sight to see a father reunited with his son and daughter. The sailor is currently deployed overseas and will not be back with his family until next month in December. It’s good that he got a chance to be with his family again, even if it was for only 96 hours.

The Welcome Home Blog was launched in June 2010 and highlights the reunions between members of the US military and their families and friends.
