Nathan Fillion Is Lightsaber Battling Mass Effect’s Commander Shepard

Nathan Fillion is geek royalty, both for playing the beloved Captain Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly and for just generally being a charming, funny guy who embraces his fans both in person and through social media. It also doesn’t hurt that he does things like have a lightsaber duel with Joss Whedon, an occasion that was captured for posterity and shared on Facebook earlier this month.

We never did find out who won, but apparently Fillion lived to fight another day. But if Joss plans a counterattack, he may just be biding his time. Then again, maybe he decided to enlist a Sith apprentice to fling at Captain Tightpants, because only a few days earlier Fillion was attacked by none other than Mass Effect’s Commander Shepard himself! Or at least by his voice. The following two pictures soon went up on Twitter, courtesy of actor Mark Meer, who provides the male voice of Shepard in BioWare’s Mass Effect series.

Well, I guess we know now whether Meer plays Paragon or Renegade. Props to the guy for donning some creepy Sith contacts just to make the whole thing look more official too. Again, we don’t get to see how the duel ended, but I’m guessing Meer is now Fillion’s padawan learner. Complete with the little hair braid.

Of course, not all of Fillion’s social engagements end with crossed lightsabers (80% of them, max). Sometimes he just gets a surprise hug from Clark Gregg, best known for portraying S.H.I.E.L.D. agent turned S.H.I.E.L.D. director Phil Coulson on ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and in the Marvel movies. Gregg shared this image on his Facebook page, along with the hashtags #agentsofCASTLE and #MalLives.

I’d love to see Fillion guest on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. What the hell, have him do a cameo actually as Richard Castle, then let the Castle writers deal with the continuity issues of their show suddenly being dragged by implication into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Actually, that would make me more likely to watch Castle, now that I think about it…
