Milla Jovovich, Face Kicks, And Monsters: New Resident Evil: Retribution Picture

The big selling point for Resident Evil movies is a pretty girl in a revealing outfit kicking the living crap out of virus-addled mutant monsters. That’s the formula they’ve followed thus far, and that’s probably the formula they’ll continue to follow until the franchise stops turning a profit. Lately they’ve added some 3D into the mix, but they’ve done so while staying true to their guiding principles.

A new photograph—courtesy the pages of Entertainment Weekly (via Shocktilyoudrop)—from Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth and latest installment, offers up more of the same. But it’s just as effective as it ever was.

The image shows Alice (series bulwark Milla Jovovich), gun in one hand, mouth twisted into a snarl, about to kick a zombie in the face. Sounds about right. Not terribly original, but it gets the point across. You can bet converted into 3D Alice’s foot will burst off the screen and pass right in front of your nose, or maybe some monster blood will spew out of the infected creature’s maw. All in slow motion, of course. Director Paul W.S. Anderson is a big believer in the use of excessive of slo-mo. God bless his little heart.

This image sums up what most anticipate from Resident Evil: Retribution: Milla Jovovich, face kicks, and monsters.

Retribution reunites Alice with her cronies from cinematic past. Sienna Guillory, Michelle Rodriguez, Oded Fehr, Boris Kodjoe, and many more actors from previous chapters of the saga make an appearance. They must team up for another tussle with the sinister Umbrella Corporation, the company responsible for unleashing the deadly T-Virus that turned the entire world into an overwhelming zombie crapfest. This go round Alice and company bounce around the globe, from Moscow to DC to Tokyo.

Resident Evil: Retribution infests theaters nationwide on September 14th.
