Promotion for season three of AMC’s The Walking Dead is focused a number of key points. There is the prison that will serve as a refuge for the group of zombie apocalypse survivors, things are going to get much darker, there will be more zombie action, and a handful of additions to the cast will play a big part.

For the most part these are changes fans have clamored for, and should improve the show, taking it in a positive direction. Watch the latest trailer that appeared at Comic Con, and you’ll see all of these elements take center stage. A new character poster continues this theme, showing new arrival Michonne (Danai Gurira), samurai sword in hand, two zombie “pets” in tow.

This image already appeared on much smaller banner for The Walking Dead, but this version provides you with greater detail, and Michonne looks appropriately ferocious and awesome.

Michonne, along with The Governor (David Morrissey), may be the biggest new piece to the puzzle. A former lawyer, she managed to survive on her own and escape relatively unscathed. Or at least as unscathed as you can be after the world ends. She is a complete badass, not afraid to cut down walkers with her blade, and fans of Robert Kirkman’s comics have eagerly awaited her arrival in the TV show.

Michonne has an especially brutal relationship with the Governor in the comics, and it will be interesting to see how much, and how effectively, that translates to the small screen. The whole landscape of the group will be forever altered by the encounter with the Governor and his survivalist enclave of Woodbury. If the show sticks close to the source material, it might not always be easy to watch.

The Walking Dead returns Sunday, October 14th.
