Why Is Michonne So Badass? Because She’s A Jedi, That’s Why

Season three of AMC’s zombie drama, The Walking Dead, introduced us to the sword-wielding Michonne (Danai Gurira). She is one of the big new additions to the show, and so far she’s spent most of her screen time hacking her way through a seemingly endless swarm of the undead with a samurai sword. No doubt, this is not a woman to be trifled with.

We know little of her story and her background. Even in Robert Kirkman’s comics that serve as the source material for the show, her character is shrouded in mystery. One of the biggest questions surrounding her is how she got to be such a badass. A new video sheds a little bit of light on this topic. She’s a damn Jedi knight, that’s why she’s so good at slicing and dicing the undead. Here’s the proof.

It makes so much sense that she would be a Jedi. She’s got crazy skills with her lightsaber, a hatred of all things evil (she instinctively knows that The Governor is a bad man), funny hair, and when she first shows up, she’s wearing a cloak that resembles the one Obi-Wan wears in Star Wars. Sure, we haven’t seen her using the Force yet, but maybe we’ll get a dose of that in the mid-season finale next Sunday.

Apparently not all Jedis live in a galaxy far, far away. Some of them have moved into the neighborhood of the zombie apocalypse. That’s probably not a bad thing: in a future overrun with the ravenous undead, they could use all of the help they can get.
