R2-D2 is a sassy little badass of a droid. Full of spunk and guts, he plays an integral part in the Rebellion, aiding Luke Skywalker in intergalactic dogfights, delivering messages for Obi-Wan Kenobi, and generally trekking all over the solar system, getting into trouble, doing what only a robot programmed without fear can do.

While maybe not as awesome as R2, this homemade droid is pretty cool, because she’s real. Meet R11:E1, also known as Zoe, after a character on Caprica.

Though Zoe may not be R2, she does come with a nice collection of lights, gadgets, and gizmos to satisfy any geek. Powered by a trio of 25Amp 12v SLA batteries, she has a router and IP webcam. Onboard, she also has a sound system, fire extinguisher, and siren, as well as holo eyes (not entirely sure what that even means), a periscope, tons of plasma and LED lights all over her body, and a smoke machine. Yes, Zoe has a smoke machine.

In addition to all of this, Zoe has a full digital projector, which, in this instance, plays Leia’s recorded message to Obi-Wan from Star Wars: A New Hope. This last feature is on full display in the above video.

Zoe is a beautiful piece of work. The construction is incredible, and she looks like she could be an actual artifact from one of the Star Wars movies, at least the original trilogy. It is slick, well put together, and creative as hell. The imagination of sci-fi fans that continually churn out these sorts of projects never ceases to impress.
