Bioware released the expanded versions of their Mass Effect 3 ending late last month, after a cacophony of player protest demanded a modified ending, or even a new ending altogether. Now that Bioware has released its final word on the conclusion of their Mass Effect trilogy, they’re shifting their eyes toward the future of the franchise, and at least for the immediate future, that means more DLC content. And it sounds like they’ve got something cool on the horizon, because the previously rumored “Leviathan” DLC expansion has now been confirmed thanks to a loose-lipped voice actor.
Voice actor Anthony Skordi first broke the news to Eurogamer. The actor has provided voice work before in games such as God of War III and Diablo III, and from the sound of things he’ll have a major role in the Leviathan DLC, since he’ll be playing…
…Leviathan itself, a rogue Reaper who has been cast out after killing one of its own kind for undisclosed reasons. Based on information uncovered in the files of the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut, including dialogue and premises, the DLC will see Shepard and crew encountering Leviathan while on a mission to rescue a scientist named Ann Bryson.
That all conforms to the earlier rumors about the DLC, but the Eurogamer story also includes another intriguing tidbit. Apparently the files hidden in the Extended Cut also include a line of dialogue that suggests the Leviathan DLC may reveal even more about the Reapers’ origins, still a sore subject for many players who were unsatisfied by ME3‘s ending. The line in question reads: “So the Reapers did not fully exterminate their creators. That suggests they are fallible, even on large or long-term scales.”
END OF SPOILERS
Regardless of whether this all proves to be 100% accurate, Bioware is expected to officially announce the Leviathan DLC this week during Comic-Con. And if you’re still enjoying Mass Effect 3‘s multiplayer, the company has also announced another free DLC pack that will add new maps and gear. Mass Effect 3: Earth is set to release on July 17th on the Xbox 360, and will add:
…mods, gear, and new maps for Rio, Vancouver, and London. It features three new weapons: Piranha assault shotgun, Acolyte pistol and Typhoon light machine gun. Six new human N7 classes are also available: Destroyer, Paladin, Demolisher, Slayer, Shadow and Fury!
In the mean time, if you still haven’t played through or seen Bioware’s modified ME3 endings, you can watch them right here.
