BrundleSeth Brundle (David Cronenberg’s The Fly)
Jeff Goldblum is a great actor and I feel his best role is that of Seth Brundle from David Cronenberg’s The Fly. While Brundle’s teleportation experiments were well meaning, the idea of transforming into a human/fly is terrifying, and his fascination with his own plight is telling. Each grotesque physical change seems to drive him deeper into madness, as the power and the strength of the fly goes straight to his head.

Cronenberg’s filmmaking sensibility heightens The Fly into something more than simple genre fare, but the sadistic joy of watching Brundle’s metamorphosis can’t be overstated. Where else can you watch somebody dissolve a dude’s foot with acid vomit?

The movie The Fly teaches us a valuable lesson: never test your new invention on yourself. It could lead your girlfriend to shooting you in the head.
