Just exactly how popular was James Cameron’s Avatar back in 2009? Not only did the 3D movie become the highest grossing movie of all-time, but it was so popular that Cameron was in talks with the people at Disney to recreate the world of Pandora at their theme park in Orlando, Florida. Are you ready to visit Pandora in real life?
Avatar Land was rumored to be part of Walt Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Disney World in Orlando, Florida, but production on the Na’vi-inspired world was halted due to disagreements between James Cameron and Disney’s Imagineers. Now alleged blueprints of Avatar Land have leaked and there are noticeable areas for a water ride like Disney’s Jungle Cruise and a 3D simulator like Star Tours and Soarin’. The blueprints also show off four giant movie theaters with two huge screens apiece, most likely to screen the movie Avatar on a continuous loop for guests. The park itself would takeover Camp Minnie-Mickey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Check out the blueprints below:
The world of Pandora is so rich and vast that you could possibly make an entire theme park based on it, but much like the movies themselves, it would take some serious “cheddar” to make it possible. Good thing James Cameron turned to Disney and Mickey Mouse to make it possible. Can you just imagine what a Na’vi-inspired Mickey Mouse would look like? It’s also a good thing there’s a giant tree called The Tree of Life in the center of Animal Kingdom, which could replace the Na’vi’s Hometree from the movie.
The attraction was originally planned to be ready to open in 2016 or 2017. Maybe we’ll get to visit Pandora around the same time we see more Avatar movies.
