I can’t tell if Disney’s Big Hero 6 beating out Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar at the box office this weekend means one is over performing while the other under performs (they took in $56 million and $50 million respectively, so neither one is exactly a flop), but one thing is for sure, when The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1 drops later this month, it’s going to be a free for all. Catching Fire, the second film, earned $158 million its first weekend, and the first part of the final chapter is poised to follow suit. To keep the hype train rolling, here’s another new clip.
After being rescued from the Hunger Games arena at the end of the last movie, heroine Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence, now the biggest female action hero in history), finds herself in District 13. Up to this point, most of the dystopian world of Panem thought this region had been destroyed decades ago, but in reality, it’s been living in secret and is now the seat of the burgeoning revolution sweeping the country. And Katniss is the symbol, the public face of this rebellion.
Part of her duties includes strapping on some shiny new armor and leading troops into battle. This is effective both as a means of combating the Capital forces, and for propaganda purposes. As she fights, there’s a camera crew filming her every move, footage that is then edited and shown to inspire the citizens in other districts to rise up themselves. In this latest clip, she meets the people who will accompany her into battle.
The crew in led by Cressida (Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer), the director, and Messalla (Evan Ross), Castor (Wes Chatham), and Pollux (Elden Henson), who has no tongue. In addition to the meet and greet, you also learn that each member of the team escaped the Capital on their own accord at various times and for a variety of reasons. Having your tongue cut out is certainly a good incentive to leave a place.
You also get a quick glimpse of Boggs (Mahershala Ali) in this footage. While some of the District 13 politicos don’t necessarily have Katniss’ best interests at heart—she’s just as valuable, if not more, dead as alive for marketing purposes—he does. Though he’s squarely on that team, he takes his guard duties very seriously, and the two form an uneasy trust.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1 also stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Claflin, Stanley Tucci, and Donald Sutherland, and opens everywhere on November 21. Part 2 follows a year later on November 20, 2015.
