ChanningEarsWhy Does Channing Tatum Have Elf Ears?
You wouldn’t know it from the trailer, but Channing Tatum’s Caine is actually sent to kill Jupiter. The trailer shows him trying to save her from various threats, including one of the least ethical doctors around. But Caine arrives on Earth with a different mission: he’s the one the Queen of the Universe sends to snuff out her Jupiter problem. Unfortunately for the Queenie, he’s soon won over by those sweet, sweet genetics Jupiter is sporting. He falls head over tail for her and switches sides, meaning he’s now got to keep Jupiter safe from the forces of, well, the entire Universe we guess.

I didn’t actually get to the ears thing did I? Right, well, in addition to being a cosmic hit-man for the Queen of the Universe, Caine is also part wolf. Hence the tracking skills, and the ears, and presumably the urinating in the corner of every room he comes into. His wolf-y origins aren’t unusual in the world of Jupiter Ascending — while we lowly humans here on Earth are genetically “pure,” much of the larger universal community has spliced their DNA with that of other creatures. One example given in an earlier report is workers getting their double helixes twisted up with bee bits to increase their productivity.

So, continuing the fairy tale imagery, Caine is both Snow White’s Hunter and the Big Bad Wolf himself. Not a bad guy to have in your corner, even if the ears do look a little goofy.
