Judge Dredd Is A Badass And A Good Guy

By Brent McKnight | Published

In case you’re unaware of this fact, Judge Dredd is a total badass. That’s the basic premise of an action-packed new featurette about Lionsgate’s upcoming sci-fi offering Dredd. Directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point), and starring Karl Urban (Star Trek) and Olivia Thirlby (The Darkest Hour), the film is the most recent adaptation of the grim, violent comic book created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra.

Dredd (Urban) is not only a tough guy, he’s also just a guy. We aren’t talking about a superhero here. There is no alter ego, no super powers, just Dredd, his gun, and one hell of a bad attitude. While the topic of conversation is the film’s protagonist, the action takes center stage in this video, specifically the action of Dredd dispatching random goons, thugs, and criminals. You have to love that bloody-faced look at Ma-Ma (Lena Heady, Game of Thrones).

Home to 800 million people, the post-atomic metropolis of Mega-City One stretches down the eastern seaboard of the former United States from Boston to Washington DC. Already infested with crime, the city is now being overrun by a new drug called slo-mo. One woman, the ruthless drug lord Ma-Ma, controls the production and trade of this new narcotic scourge, which makes its users experience reality at 1/100 normal speed. The only thing standing between order and chaos is a force of Judges, essentially the entire legal system rolled into one person. Judge Dredd is an infamous member of this fraternity, and while breaking in a new partner, Cassandra Anderson (Thirlby), events put him on a collision course with Ma-Ma.

Dredd opens in 3D on September 21st.
