Journey To The Center Of The Earth Sequel Trailer Picks A Different Jules Verne Book

2008’s Journey to the Center of the Earth was maybe the worst adaptation of a Jules Verne novel ever put to screen. But if you’re not judging it as an adaptation, and just as a movie, it was actually a lot of fun. The 3D was some of the best we seen and, even though the movie’s script seemed to be mostly based around throwing as much unrealistic CGI at the screen as possible, it managed to convey a real sense of adventure.

So now the Journey team is back with a sequel, only one castmember from the previous film is in it and they aren’t journeying to the center of the Earth at all. That hasn’t stopped them from calling it Journey 2: The Mysterious Island though. Good call on leaving out “the center of the Earth” part. Here’s the sequel’s first trailer:

Looks like The Rock is back to doing family movies. Predictable. Otherwise this looks a lot like the other movie. Throw as much CGI at the screen as possible, whether or not any of it looks realistic (none of it does) and hope everyone has fun. If it’s done the way the first one was done, you will. Now if only they could find a way to leave Jules Verne out of it…
