Joss Whedon Resurrects Firefly’s Wash… Sort Of

If there was any question that Joss Whedon is not only a masterful storyteller, but also a ninja-level troll, that uncertainty can be put to rest now. See, last week somebody on Twitter asked Joss for more Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And lo, their prayers were answered! Sort of. He posted the following, along with the message, “your wish is my command here ya go.”

Buffy

I’ll leave it to the internet to decide whether napkin doodles from the show’s creator constitute canon or if they’re just celebrity fan fiction. At any rate, the goofy little drawing that probably took Joss less than a minute to sketch out rose up and ate the social media sphere, but was he finished? Oh no, he was not. After the original poster told Joss that “your drawing has commandeered my notifications this past week,” Joss took things to the next level with a hilarious yet knife-twisting Firefly doodle.

Firefly

I’m not sure what I like better: Wash diving into frame, the line “Shit be weird,” or the Agent Coulson reference. Hell, if Firefly and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are sharing a universe, somebody pump Wash’s corpse full of Kree blood, stat!

Dare we hope that this will continue, and that we’ll get Twitter doodles for Dollhouse, Fray, and Doctor Horrible? Maybe even a Much Ado About Nothing sketch just to keep things classy?

While teasing us with the prospect of Wash being alive and well again is just plain mean, fans craving the further adventures of Buffy and the Slayers or Captain Mal and the Serenity crew need look no further than Dark Horse Comics’ digital store. They’ve been publishing officially approved Buffy and Angel comics that picked up where those shows left off for years now, and the in-canon Serenity: Leaves on the Wind mini-series is currently six issues into its run. That may not be quite as good as seeing Alan Tudyk actually dust off the Hawaiian shirt and returning to the screen as Wash, but in the kill-happy world of Joss Whedon’s brain, we’ll take what we can get.
