I’ve got my fingers crossed that John Carter will find an audience on Blu-ray and DVD. I imagine I’m not the only one, since Disney is losing around $200 million on the flick. We’ve gone on at length about the disaster that was Disney’s John Carter marketing, but hopefully the word of mouth from those of us who liked the movie will allow people to discover John Carter on Blu-ray who (understandably) skipped it in theaters.
Disney has announced that John Carter will be arriving on 3D Blu-ray, regular Blu-ray, DVD, and assorted other formats on June 5th. Disney’s original announcement listed several bonus features, including a couple of making-of featurettes, a blooper reel, and deleted scenes with commentary by director Andrew Stanton. Now the folks over at Bleeding Cool have revealed more details and running times for the deleted scenes and other features. Here’s the breakdown.

You’d never, ever get one from a studio release like this, but I’d love to see a warts-and-all documentary about the development of the film, giving an honest evaluation of what the film did right and where it went wrong. John Carter was always a property with many challenges to surmount in order to become a box-office hit, but Disney’s marketing did it no favors. It would be fascinating to find out what all went on behind the scenes leading up to the release. That’s about as likely to happen as John Carter is to get a sequel, but one can dream…
In the mean time, you can pre-order your copy of John Carter right this very minute over at Amazon.
