Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium is one of the most anticipated movies of the summer (after Star Trek Into Darkness). The follow-up to his 2009 film, District 9, has sci-fi fans waiting for the first trailer to be released. For now, you can check out this first look at Jodie Foster as the hard-line government official, Secretary Rhodes.

Blomkamp’s film takes place in the year 2159, when the wealthy live on an orbiting space station called Elysium, while the poor are stuck on a ruined Earth below. The cancer-ridden Max (Matt Damon) reluctantly takes on a mission to infiltrate the space station in hopes of finding a cure to save his own life. During that time, Secretary Rhodes tries to enforce anti-immigration laws in the space station Elysium, in order to protect its affluent citizens. Rhodes sends a bounty hunter named Kruger to capture Max.

Foster sports a futuristic Bluetooth ear piece that will no doubt be in direct communication with Kruger, played by Sharlto Copley.

Sony has slowly been building anticipation for Elysium since they released the first look at Matt Damon as the character Max this past. Since then, the studio has pushed Elysium’s release date from March to August 2013 in hopes of maximizing the film’s box office. Last month, Sony released the first picture of Copley as the film’s villainous Kruger.

Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium will hit theaters everywhere on August 9th.
