Did Jason Flemyng Confirm Matthew Vaughn As Star Wars Director?

After weeks of speculation and rumors surrounding who will direct the new Star Wars film, a video has popped up of actor Jason Flemyng seemingly confirming Matthew Vaughn as the director who will get the keys to Episode VII. Matthew Vaughn was the first director to be mentioned as a possibility to helm Star Wars: Episode VII, but a goofy “confirmation” doesn’t exactly mean Vaughn will ultimately get the job.

In a video interview with British website HeyUGuys.co.uk, Flemyng was asked if he’d discuss any future role he’d have in the new Star Wars with Vaughn. Flemyng worked with Vaughn on nine different films, including all of the films Vaughn directed. Flemyng acknowledged that he had a conversation with Vaughn about Star Wars, but then backtracked. Watch the video “evidence” below (the Star Wars talk begins at 1:11),

Matthew Vaughn has been on the Star Wars director short list for quite some time. His abrupt departure from the production of X-Men: Days of Future Past just days before the Disney/Lucasfilm announcement gave many industry insiders reasons to suspect that Vaughn would take on Star Wars.

Matthew Vaughn would be an inspired choice to direct Star Wars: Episode VII. He’s a competent director who makes very solid films without artifice or style, he has geek and fanboy credibility thanks to movies like X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass under his belt, and he can deliver a film on time without any major production problems.
