SaberScrew Black Friday — pretty much all anyone’s talking about right now is that Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer. Love it, hate it, or fall somewhere in between, I haven’t met anybody yet who didn’t have a strong reaction to it one way or another, and celebrities are no exception. So naturally many folks have taken to the social mediasphere to share their thoughts on the Falcon, that lightsaber, and that ball-droid we all want for Christmas.

This past summer James Gunn gave us one of the best Star Wars movies that isn’t actually a Star Wars movie in the form of Guardians of the Galaxy. He posted his thoughts on Facebook:

Kevin Smith’s been making movies referencing Star Wars for more years than some of our readers have been alive. He also got to visit the Force Awakens set earlier this year, and came away genuinely moved by the experience. So of course Silent Bob couldn’t stay silent when it came to this trailer. And just like many of us, this glimpse of new Star Wars hit him right square in the childhood.

Director Rian Johnson is in the enviable position of actually being up at bat for his very own Star Wars movies, in queue to write and direct Episode VIII — or whatever they end up calling it. No doubt Johnson saw the trailer before any of the rest of us, but he still shared his excitement at getting to see the rest of us get our eyes on it.

Edgar Wright got to create his own holy trilogy with Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End, and I wouldn’t mind seeing what he could bring to a Star Wars one. Maybe it could cheer him up about that whole Ant-Man fiasco. Either way, he took a moment to single out John Boyega, who has the distinction of being the first character we see in the Force Awakens trailer.

Finally, the good-natured rivalry between Star Trek and Star Wars has been going on for decades. The good-natured rivalry between William Shatner and J.J. Abrams is considerably newer than that, but it shouldn’t surprise anybody that The Shat had something to say about all this Star Wars ballyhoo. Quite a few things, actually…

Ahh Bill, you magnificent, cranky bastard, we love ya.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters on December 18, 2015.
