Let’s return to Pandora. Before James Cameron moves down to New Zealand to start working on the sequels to Avatar, Fox and “the king of the world” are widely releasing the original Avatar movie on Blu-ray 3D for the first time.

A few years ago, Panasonic and Fox had an exclusive deal to bundle their Full High Definition 3D Plasma TVs and the Blu-ray 3D of Avatar together. Until now, this was the only way to watch Avatar at home in 3D. But now, their exclusive deal is coming to a close and Fox is releasing Avatar 3D to a wider audience. It’s about time. The Blu-ray 3D of Avatar was available through third party marketplaces like eBay and Amazon for a whopping $60 to $150.

Here’s what the cover art will look like on the new, more affordable version…

There hasn’t been any word on whether or not the Blu-ray 3D will have bonus features or if it will be the extended or alternative versions of Avatar but James Cameron made a video announcement for the film’s Facebook page. It appears Cameron included a recruiting video for RDA hosted by Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) in the Facebook video. Check it out:

James Cameron’s Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all-time. The groundbreaking movie took in $2.7 Billion worldwide box office in 2009. It was nominated for nine Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director but only won three Oscars for Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Art Direction. Cameron has stated that the sequels to Avatar will be made back-to-back with a tentative release in 2015.
