interstellarAre you ready for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar? You may think you are, but this is a more serious question than you may realize. As good as it looks, as excited as we all are to finally set eyes on it, this is not an undertaking you should go into lightly. This is going to be a marathon. Nolan is not exactly known for making short, quick hit movies, but Interstellar is going to be his longest yet. And because we seemingly can’t go a single day anymore without something new from the film, another collection of photos from the film and set dropped today.

We knew Interstellar was going to be a rather lengthy affair. After all, there are a number of big themes in play, and the plot is also fairly expansive. In the near future, global climate change has gotten so bad that Earth won’t be able to sustain life much longer. Basically, it’s time to find a new home, and a group of explorers, including Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, blasts off through a newly discovered wormhole to find a fresh new planet to call home.

interstellarThat just sounds like its going to take up a lot of time, and it’s being reported that Interstellar clocks in at a whopping 169 minutes. Not quite three hours, but not far off. Here’s a little context. Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey runs 160 minutes, and Nolan’s previous long, The Dark Knight Rises, comes in at 165. So he hasn’t blown his old record out of the water or anything, but that is a beastly run time any way you look at it.

But you know what, that doesn’t dampen our enthusiasm for Interstellar one iota. We may forgo the large soda at the theater that night, we may even invest in some adult diapers just in case, but this has been one of our most anticipated movies of the year, and nothing is going to change that.

interstellarWhile the photos we showed you yesterday primarily dealt with the deep space side of things, this new collection if more focused on the Earth-bound portion of the story. Sure, there are still images of guys in space suits, and by far the most interesting one is of Nolan and what looks like kind of interesting space vessel (I’m not sure what it is, exactly, but it should be fun to find out), but the primary concern is McConaughey’s character Cooper and the family he has to leave in order to save the entire human race.

Interstellar also stars Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine, David Oyelowo, Wes Bentley, John Lithgow, Ellen Burstyn, Topher Grace, David Gyasi, Mackenzie Foy, Bill Irwin, Timothée Chalamet, and Matt Damon. The film opens everywhere, in its full 169-minute glory, on November 7.
