International Riddick TV Spot Kicks Ass In Spanish

Some of us have been waiting damn near a decade for Riddick to arrive. And some of us have been waiting even longer than that for another good movie featuring Vin Diesel’s space badass. The latest film in the so-called “Furyan Chronicles” hits IMAX theaters worldwide on September 6, a fact clearly illustrated by this new international TV spot.
Though it’s pretty similar in content to the numerous trailers and commercials that we’ve seen in the process of building up to this movie, there is some nice new footage to just to mix things up. For instance, there’s more—and by more, I mean like a second or two more—of Riddick sitting on the Necromonger throne. This addresses, at least in an oblique manner, one of the biggest questions many have had surrounding Riddick.
The new film finds the titular space outlaw on stranded on the surface of a desolate planet, engaged in a life or death battle with monsters and bounty hunters. That’s all well and good, and much more in line, thematically and content wise, with Pitch Black, the first film in the series, but there’s a gap we’ve been wondering about. At the end of the bloated, overlong sequel, The Chronicles of Riddick, he has killed the leader of the Necromongers. As a culture, their rule is “you keep what you kill,” and thus Riddick should be taking over as their ruler.
That’s obviously a fact that Riddick is going to have to deal with in some capacity, but so far, we haven’t seen much play in that direction. There have been a few quick snippets, like this latest look, but other than that most of what we know comes from a motion comic that serves as a prequel to the newest movie, as well as covering the time between the two movies. You know they’re still going to have to cover some of that in the film, because general movie going audiences won’t have a chance to see this.
While the Necromonger part is just the briefest piece of the puzzle, the bulk of this new spot is taken up with the various occupants of the planet who all “want a piece” of Riddick. It’s hard being the king, even when you’re just trying to get away from it all and hang out on a seemingly abandoned planet. This, of course, pisses off a man with the Furyan’s particular sensibilities and temperament, and now they “play for blood.” That’s not a course of action that is going to end well for anyone with the poor sense to get in his face. We’ve seen Jordi Molla get that machete kicked through his head before, but it never gets old. If nothing else, this movie should be a damn lot of fun. And if it proves successful, director David Twohy has already indicated we could see more movies on the horizon.
