I caught Inception last night and the rumors are true: It’s one of the best movies of the year. Later this week I’ll attempt to explain why it’s also one of the greatest science fiction movies of all time. Yeah, it’s that good. But would it have been as good without Leonardo DiCaprio?
The LA Times says Leo wasn’t the only choice to play the movie’s lead role of Cobb. Early on both Brad Pitt and Will Smith were in talks to take the part.
Would it have worked as well? Maybe. I can easily see a Twelve Monkeys era Brad Pitt stepping right into the role and knocking it out of the park. Will Smith? He’s not really the edgy type. He’s great in dramas and big blockbusters, but a complicated movie about dream invasion… I don’t see it.
