What better day to release an official image from a movie about the end of the world? Well, at least the title of the movie suggests the end of the world. The first official image of Edgar Wright’s upcoming movie, The World’s End, was released today. The image shows five lifelong friends at the bar called The World’s End.

End

The official image was tweeted by the film’s star Simon Pegg. He released the image to celebrate the end of principal photography of the film. Pegg will play one of five lifelong friends who reunite to re-create one of their greatest achievements, an epic pub-crawl. But when they are confronted with the past, they must stick together and fight for their future and all of mankind. He will be joined by Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, and Eddie Marsan in The World’s End.

The name of the film doesn’t suggest the actual end of the world, but rather the name of the last bar in their journey. The World’s End is the third and final film in Edgar Wright’s “Blood and Ice Cream” trilogy of films, which feature both Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in post-modern, genre-bending movies. Each film in the trilogy plays off a certain genre: Shaun of the Dead played off of horror, Hot Fuzz played off of action/buddy cop movies, and The World’s End will play off of science fiction. But for The World’s End, it somehow feels like time travel might be involved in this movie.

The World’s End will hit theaters everywhere on October 25, 2013.
